Edward "Squeecy" Blackwell

Edward Leroy "Squeecy" Blackwell, 63, of Churchville passed away Friday, April 15, 2022 at UVA.

Mr. Blackwell was born in Staunton on July 27, 1958, a son of the late Homer Thomas Sr. and Mary Alice (Weaver) Blackwell.

A service representative, Eddie was employed with Lab Corp, who loved visiting with the staff in the many offices on his route. He was known as a people person, who never met a stranger. He will be fondly remembered for his bubbly personality and laughter that would light up a room. Eddie had a great love for hunting deer and turkey. He was an avid sports fan, especially college and high school basketball and a devoted Oakland Raiders fan. He had a lot of fond memories of playing basketball at Buffalo Gap High School. He enjoyed helping his wife decorate for Halloween. Above all, Eddie was a devoted husband, who cherished his family.

In addition to his parents, Eddie was predeceased by two brothers, Fred W. and Frank C. Blackwell.

Eddie will be deeply missed by his wife of 37 years, Glenda M. (Bishop) Blackwell; two brothers, Homer T. Blackwell and wife, Nancy of Waynesboro, and Leonard Harris and wife, Phyllis of Newburg, MO; sister, Bettie E. Smith of Churchville; sisters-in-law Lisa L. Blackwell and Debbie B. Blackwell, both of Churchville; sister- and brother-in-law, Kim and John Samples of Paducah, Ky; nephews, Kenton Smith of Churchville, Scott Blackwell of Churchville, Charlie Samples of West Chester, Ohio, and James Samples and wife, Madi of Loveland, Ohio; nieces, Katie Townsend and husband, Chad of Churchville, Brandi Wilcher of Fishersville, Beth Gouthro and husband, Matt of Staunton, Judy Turner and husband, Brent of Rolla, MO, Lana Archer and husband, Will of MO; several great-nieces and great-nephews; family friend, Julie Farrar; as well as his beloved cats, Poe, Amelia and K.C. and horses, Romeo, Daisy and Sterling.

A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, April 21 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with Rev. Beth Pyles officiating. Interment will follow in Head Water Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tim Shull, Danny Griffin, Warren Harper, J.D. Robinson, Doug Conner, Bobby McManaway, Travis Griffin, Carroll Eckard and Lance Armstrong.

The family will receive friends, 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, April 20 at the funeral home.
